Emmanuel Djabang: The Valedictorian at UDS’ April 2025 Congregation
In a ceremony filled with pride, inspiration, and heartfelt celebration, Dr. Emmanuel Djabang captured the spirit of triumph at the University for Development Studies (UDS) Special Congregation held on April 26, 2025. Standing before an audience of proud families, faculty, and peers, he delivered a stirring valedictory address, one that celebrated perseverance, gratitude, and the boundless possibilities ahead.
Dr. Djabang’s academic path is a powerful story of determination and intellectual passion. His early education at Presbyterian Senior High School, Osu, and later at Accra Academy, laid a firm foundation for future achievement. He pursued higher education at the University of Cape Coast, earning a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Diploma in Education. His academic thirst led him further to the University of Ghana, where he obtained an MPhil in Mathematics in 2011.
His commitment to teaching excellence saw him serve as a Graduate Assistant and later as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Ghana, nurturing young minds in the Schools of Pharmacy, Engineering Sciences, and Physical and Mathematical Sciences. In 2018, Dr. Djabang took a bold step, enrolling in the PhD Mathematics programme at UDS’s Navrongo Campus. Specializing in Mathematical Analysis and Inequalities, he successfully defended his thesis on March 17, 2025, bringing to fruition years of hard work and research excellence.
Addressing the congregation with poise and passion, Dr. Djabang reflected on the transformative journey he and his fellow graduands had navigated. He candidly acknowledged the hurdles they faced — financial constraints, academic challenges, and moments of deep doubt — but emphasized that these trials had forged a spirit of resilience and purpose.
"Our dedication, persistence, and hard work have paid off," he declared, his voice resonating with conviction. "Now, we must apply our knowledge and skills to make a meaningful impact in our communities and nation."
Invoking the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, he reminded his peers: "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." His speech was not merely a celebration but a clarion call to action — a plea for integrity, lifelong learning, professional excellence, and relentless pursuit of dreams.
Dr. Djabang’s speech was rich with gratitude. He expressed profound thanks to the faculty of UDS, especially his supervisors, Professor Kwara Nantomah and Professor Mohammed Muniru Iddrisu, whose mentorship was instrumental to his academic success. He also paid warm tribute to parents, guardians, and loved ones, recognizing their sacrifices as the “bedrock” upon which their achievements were built.
Beyond academia, Dr. Djabang is a devoted family man, a passionate sports enthusiast, and an active member of the Methodist Church. His life story exemplifies the harmonious balance of rigorous scholarship and strong personal values, making him a role model not just for future mathematicians but for anyone striving to excel against the odds.
As he transitions into the next chapter of his journey, Dr. Djabang’s message to the Class of 2025 was clear and inspiring: "Congratulations. Pursue your dreams, stay resilient, and make your mark on the world."
Indeed, Dr. Emmanuel Djabang’s story is a shining testament to perseverance, intellect, and faith, a legacy that will inspire generations of UDS graduates to come.
Congratulations, Dr. Djabang, the future is truly yours to shape!
