UDS Declares Results of 2025/2026 SRC/NUGS/WOCOM Elections
The Electoral Commission of the University for Development Studies (UDS) Students’ Representative Council (SRC) has officially declared the winners of the 2025/2026 SRC/NUGS/WOCOM general elections, marking the successful conclusion of a month-long electoral process.
The elections, conducted between February 23 and March 31, 2026, recorded a total of 6,163 votes cast in the SRC Presidential race, reflecting what officials describe as strong student engagement across the University’s campuses.
Chairperson of the SRC Electoral Commission, Mr. Moses Adagyine Akulga, in a report submitted to the Dean of Students Affairs, commended stakeholders for their collective efforts in ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process.
“The success of the elections is largely attributable to the cooperation and commitment of all stakeholders, including candidates, the University administration, security personnel, and the student body,” he noted.
The Commission’s report highlighted the orderly conduct of the elections and underscored the importance of sustaining such collaborative efforts in future student governance processes.
In addition to declaring the results, the Commission made a number of strategic recommendations aimed at strengthening future electoral processes within the University. Key among these is a proposed review of the SRC Constitution to provide clarity on eligibility requirements, particularly concerning CGPA thresholds and the participation of students enrolled in six-year programmes.
The report further called for enhanced autonomy of the Electoral Commission to ensure independence in the discharge of its mandate, as well as the timely allocation of financial resources to support efficient election management.
“Strengthening the independence of the Electoral Commission and ensuring timely budgetary support are critical to maintaining the integrity and efficiency of future elections,” the report emphasized.
Other recommendations included intensified voter education, investment in electoral technologies, and improved documentation systems to enhance transparency and institutional memory.
The Dean of Students Affairs is expected to study the report and work with relevant stakeholders to implement the recommendations as part of ongoing efforts to improve governance and student participation at UDS.
The newly elected SRC, NUGS, and WOCOM executives have been congratulated and encouraged to discharge their duties with dedication, integrity, and transparency in service to the student body.
