GUSA Honours UDS Vice-Chancellor with Citation for Outstanding Leadership in University Sports

The Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) has paid a courtesy call on the University for Development Studies (UDS), where it presented a Citation of Honour to the Vice-Chancellor in recognition of his exceptional leadership and contribution to university sports development.

The GUSA delegation, led by its President, Mr Shaina Ibrahim Tanko, included the Vice President, Prof Dominic Otoo, Financial Secretary, Ibrahim Ali Abdullai, and Organising Secretary, Mr. Timothy Kwabena Mensa.

Welcoming the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to advancing sports as a key component of holistic student development.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Prof. Dominic Otoo praised the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, drawing a powerful analogy to underscore the University’s recent sporting successes. “If you see a tree growing well, it means the environmental conditions are right for its growth,” he remarked, explaining that the remarkable performance of the UDS football team at the FISU University World Cup Football was a direct reflection of the supportive leadership and enabling environment fostered by the Vice-Chancellor.

He noted that GUSA had closely followed the University’s achievements on the global stage and acknowledged the Vice-Chancellor’s dedication, vision, and strategic investment in sports development, which have contributed significantly to UDS’s rising profile in international university competitions.

The highlight of the visit was the formal presentation of the Citation of Honour by Mr. Shaina Ibra-him Tanko to the Vice-Chancellor. The citation recognized his unwavering commitment to sports excellence and his role in positioning UDS as a formidable force in university football.

Receiving the honour, the Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude to GUSA for the recognition and dedicated the award to the entire University community, including management, staff, and student-athletes whose collective efforts continue to drive the institution’s success.

The GUSA leadership further indicated its intention to organise a larger public event to formally honour the Vice-Chancellor, allowing a broader audience to celebrate his contributions to universi-ty sports in Ghana.
